4.1 Shift Start

  1. Arrive 10 minutes before shift
  2. Check in with Watch Commander
  3. Receive briefing on current situations
  4. Check out vehicle and equipment
  5. Log on to MDT and radio

5. Traffic Stops

5.1 Initiating a Stop

  1. Observe violation or reasonable suspicion
  2. Activate emergency lights
  3. Call out location, vehicle description, plate number
  4. Wait for vehicle to stop safely

5.2 Approach Procedure

  1. Exit vehicle when safe
  2. Approach on driver side (or passenger side if safer)
  3. Position yourself behind B-pillar
  4. Request license and registration
  5. Return to patrol vehicle to run checks

5.3 High-Risk (Felony) Stops

Felony Stop Procedure:
  1. Call for backup before initiating
  2. Use PA system to issue commands
  3. Have occupants exit with hands visible
  4. Approach only when subjects are prone/secured
  5. Clear vehicle before allowing subjects up
